Sarkar (lit. Authority) is an upcoming 2018 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film co-written and directed by AR Murugadoss, and starring Vijay, Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, music composed by A.R. Rahman. The film began production in January 2018, and is scheduled to be released on 7 November 2018, coinciding with Diwali.

With a schedule of 3-month pre-production work, the shoot is likely to go on floors during January 2018 and also it is said to be a Diwali-2018 release.[7] Girish Gangadharan of Kali, Angamaly Diaries and the recent Solo fame has supposedly been roped in to crank the camera-work for the film.[8]Following the successful Thuppakki and Kaththi, the 62nd film of actor Vijay has been almost confirmed with AR Murugadoss. The project, tentatively titled Vijay 62, is slated to enter production once Vijay completes Mersal and Murugadoss completes Spyder.[5][6]
In mid-November 2017, it was reported that actor Yogi Babu is in talks to play a role in the film,[9] also it is said that A. R. Rahmanis been in talks to compose the music of the film.[10]. Nayanthara is in talks for the female lead in the film. [11] A. Sreekar Prasadwho has previously edited Thuppakki and Kaththi has been confirmed as the film's editor.[12]
In early-December 2017, T.Santhanam has been roped in as the art director of the film, and following this it was made official that Sun Pictures is producing the film. [13] Before the title was revealed on 21 June 2018,[14] it was referred to by the media as Thalapathy 62, as it is the 62nd film starring Vijay who is commonly called "Thalapathy" (commander) by fans. Keerthy Sureshalso has a leading role, Girish Gangadharan serves as cinematographer and T. Santhanam is the art director. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar also plays a pivotal role.[15][16] [17] B. Jeyamohan was recruited as writer, and shooting began in January 2018. The team have successfully completed the first and second schedules of the shoot, and were set to begin their third schedule in the US in early March.[2][18][19][20]
Soundtrack
The soundtrack of the film will be composed by A. R. Rahman.[17] Lyricist Vivek will be penning all the songs[21]
Release
The film is scheduled to be released in November 2018, coinciding with the Diwali festival.[17]
